PMFJI...  but this reminds me of another strange thing I actually witnessed 
my modem doing.
My 28.8 (ROM -18) suddenly decided to go OFF HOOK on evening at approx 
11:30pm.
FrontDoor did not have any scheduled polls until 6:30am.   So I was very 
surprised to notice that the modem decided to go off hook.  However, the 
display did not show the off-hook status.  It still showed the fireworks 
display that I programmed it to.  But since I configured the modem with the 
speaker ON for dial-outs, I could hear the dial-tone and later I heard the 
Bell recording to hang up the phone. 
The off-hook condition lasted about 90 seconds.   I think FD's automatic and 
regular "reset" with ATZ solved the condition returned the line to the 
on-hook position.
Anyone else witness something like this?!
