Yes, the series of 'Thin Man' movies were based on the Dashiel Hammett
characters in his same name novel.  Later in that series a child
character was added to play their son.  Solving crimes is a bit harder
if you have to find a baby-sitter before going out to search for
clues...
There was also a TV series starring Peter Lawford in the late 1950's.  I
remember that as my first real 'favorite' TV show.
