subject: Register Allfix

Hello Jeff,

On Sunday December 30 2007 14:24, you wrote to me:

I will...

Yes, very annoying.

I had e-mail contact with the author, Harald Harms. The key generator is
not the real problem. The real problem is that the source code is lost. If
the source were available it would be easy to make a version that does not
need a key. Or conversely, retrieve the algorithm for the key(s).

Writing a new key generator requires that the algorithm be known. And
probably some "master key" to generate the keys. The whole idea
of using keys to protect the software is that this is *not* easy without
that knowledge. And apparently the information to build a new key generator
is also lost. He did too good a job...

Harald did not seem to be too interested. He has lost all interest in
FidoNet and is breeding dogs now.

Cheers, Michiel
