While tripping merrily through the mail, Jack Smith was overheard
JS> Would you believe I heard this from a "local yokel" on a TV show? He
JS> paraded out "The Beach Boys Today" and claimed it was worth about $400
JS> (not signed AFAIK). Ten minutes later, the other one was shown and
JS> the same claim was made. If I see anything like this again I'll call
JS> the station, ask to speak to the "expert", and ask him if he'd like to
 JS> buy a couple of LPs at $400/ea. ;-)
Signed would make a difference, but I don't know how much (I have a Della
Reese, a Bobby Martin and a Tommy Leonetti that ARE signed )
I've seen a lot of that in the media. Check your local paper if they carry
the column by Jerry Osborne (I forget the name of the column unfortunately,
I don't spend the money on our local rag other than on Sundays). He's
one of the leading authorities on collectables.
 JS> Nope.  I don't have these.  I have around 1000 LPs and maybe 120 45s;
JS> some date back to the middle fifties. I don't have much of a handle
JS> on their value. Can you recommend a good book?
The best ones I've found are published by "Goldmine", the record collector's
newspaper. They have one volume on LP's and one on 45's that I know of,
they may have some other more specialized guides too. These are written
by Neal Umphred, who's right up there with Jerry :-)
If you have trouble finding them, you can contact "Goldmine" directly,
 "Krause Publications
  700 E. State St.
  Iola, WI 54990
  (715) 445-2214"
They'll also be happy to send you a copy of "Goldmine" which a bi-weekly
newspaper, primarily ads by collectors and dealers, but there's also
good feature articles and discographys on numerous performers every issue.
 JS> Don, you'd have to be about 90. :-)

DD> I'll give you a hint. "All Summer Long" was probably
DD> playing on the radio as I drove my date to our High School
 DD> Junior Prom. :-)
JS> Hmmm, Junior Prom time... "A Teenager in Love" - Dion & the Belmonts,
JS> "This I Swear" - The Skyliners, "I Need Your Love Tonight" - Elvis.
JS> Now you know why I said you'd have to be 90. :-)
Well let's do some figuring here, hmmmmm, (oops, ran out of fingers),
I guess that means if I'm 90, you're 95 :-)
DD> ... Take my hand, I'm a stranger in Fidoland
JS> Older than dirt. The Four Aces, circa 1953.
With a melody by Borodin from the last century.
BTW, you may want to ask your sysop if he'll carry the "Memories" echo,
I think you may enjoy it. It's a bunch of us "old pharts" sitting around
swapping memories, and a lot of it revolves around old music (in this
packet I'm uploading the lyrics to "Hi-Heel Sneakers")
