You did good.  People who aren't exposed to this stuff just don't understand. 
My town is 95% white so as often as not the punks are white instead of black.
My next door neighbor began a life of crime after his wife left him.  I had 
numerous situations with him and his gang until the state police swat team 
took him away for committing a gruesome triple murder while doing a home 
invasion while impersonating a police officer.  He's now on death row at 
Potosi, Missouri.
Most people just couldn't understand why I carried an AR-15 while going 
to get my mail.....
Two of my best friends have been murdered.  I just don't care to go out that 
way if I can avoid it.
