It came to pass on 11/24/96 that KEITH SAYERS wrote concerning
ublications...

KS> I have picked up a contract working with Access version 1 (but they
KS> do have vague hopes of moving to version 2!)
Tell them to go to version 2. They will save the money they paid for
the upgrade in the first week of programming. I used version 1 for two
long. Version 2 literally allows you to do things in half the time.
KS> and am struggling a bit
KS> with almost no documentation. The Help screens refer to 'the
KS> Introduction to Programming book' and I have a message from Abb
KS> Naklie in this echo some time back mentioning 'the Language
KS> Reference Manual from Microsoft'.
The Language reference is part of the Developers Kit, which is about
$500, but again, will save you heaps of time. The kit contains the
runtime engine, which allows you to distribute applications to people
without access.
KS> So I wrote to Microsoft in Sydney
KS> (their Oz office) and seem to have beaten them - all they can offer
KS> is 'Field Guide to Access 2 for Windows' (plus some others that seem
KS> not relevant). Would anyone know more about those two publications,
KS> in particular ISBN's, etc, and whether they are available just
KS> States-side or worldwide? (At a push I might be able to order from
KS> the US if I know exactly what to ask for.) Many thanks to anyone
KS> who can.
I have QUE's Using Access 2, which is pretty good but doesn't have a
language reference. Version 1 did come with a language reference, but
it was left out of version 2, hence it's inclusion in the Developers
Kit.
I'd seriously suggest going to Version 2. You could then take advantage
of the Knowledge base, which is on microsofts website. It is about a
2MB help file with lots of 'how to' stuff. It is pretty essential if
you ask me.
