* While chatting with Rick Thoma, Judith Labonte was overheard saying:
JL>I agree with you that that is the question; however, I have a
JL>further
JL>question and maybe you can help me. I agree with the legal
JL>stuff you
JL>guys seem to be doing for people falsely accused, but I was
JL>wondering
JL>if there was anything of a more psychological nature to
JL>support someone
JL>who has been falsely accused and imprisoned overcome that
JL>trauma? This
JL>relates to someone in my family who has been falsely accused
JL>and I KNOW
JL>it was false because this person is not physically able to do
JL>what they
JL>were accused of, although that is not something I can
JL>"prove" in
JL>court.
JL>Anyway, is there any help around for someone like that who
JL>has been
JL>pounded away at by counselors they were sent to by the courts
JL>who were
JL>trying to force them to admit something they didn't do?
JL>I want to be up front with you folks. I am, myself, a
JL>"survivor" of
JL>abuse and you may have seen me on some of the echoes for that
JL>subject.
JL>If you've been falsely accused, you may immediately question
JL>that and I
JL>wouldn't blame you one bit. But I am. However I don't
JL>believe that
JL>everyone who is accused is a perpetrator all the time and I
JL>was also a
JL>witness a few years back for a young man who was accused of
JL>raping a
JL>friend of mine at a time when he was on the phone with me -
JL>as my long
JL>distance bill confirmed. So I KNOW there are are false
JL>accusations
JL>and I want to give all of you the benefit of the doubt and I
JL>hope you
JL>will give me the same thing. Because I am VERY concerned
JL>about someone
JL>who is in prison now and who hopefully will win an appeal and
JL>get out.
JL>I know this must effect people just as horribly and is abuse
JL>just as
JL>bad as anything I went through.
JL>How do I help another person come through that?
JL>Any ideas, suggestions, would be welcome and thank you.
I hope you do not mind if I jump in. The problem you face in finding someone
competent to help the person you know. Psychology and social work is
infested with people practicing a civil religion instead of using anything
remotely resembling science. The tragedy is that no one in these
professions should be trusted until they clean up their houses. I can give
you a rough estimate of the probability of finding some one safe: social work
20%, psychology 40%, psychiatry possibly 60%. They still will not be using
science, just well intentioned. Good luck, this is a sad time to need help.
