> HM> 3Com has purchased USR.
BS> What I just read today was MERGER, NOT buyout.
PR-droids have it like this:
New York, February 26, 1997: 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq:COMS) and U.S.
Robotics Corporation (Nasdaq: USRX) today announced a definitive
agreement to enter into the largest merger in the history of the
data networking industry. Upon closing, the company will retain the
3Com name.
But journos have it like this:
Wall Street Journal reported (27/02) that the 3Com takeover was worth
some US $6bn. Official statements are effectively that USR Inc.
will cease to exist but 3Com will continue using the well-known brand
name for what've traditionally been USR products.

3Com Corp. has announced a definitive agreement to acquire modem maker
U.S. Robotics Corp. in a stock swap valued at $6.6 billion.
Let's hope that the technical rivalry that's bought us hi-speed comms
at budget prices continues?
