subject: Bulbar Polio Question

AQ>hi Ann and Mary
Hi Allan
AQ>I am not absolutely sure either, but I think the difference is this.
AQ>"Ordinary" polio affects various anterior horns of the spinal
AQ>chord, and consequently knocks out the motor neurons that drive
AQ>muscles. (there is now some doubt that it is a black and white issue)
As far as I know, you are right about the anterior horns...that is what
was explained to me when I first found out that I had PPS.
AQ>Bulbar polio is more to do with the virus affecting areas of the brain -
AQ>usually parts of the life support systems in the Brain stem, eg the
AQ>Blood pressure control system, temperature control system, the keeping
AQ>alert/awake system (the Reticular Formation), heart rates, breathing etc.
AQ>That is all I can think of. Looking forward to hear a more informed
AQ>opinion.
Nice to meet you...Where are you???? I can't tell. Do you have PPS?
Hoping to get to know you better. Talk to you later....
