Actually, cellular rates in Canada have effectively dropped like
a rock over about the last 5 years at least in Ontario and
Quebec.
The thrreshold is still about the same to get service, but per
minute time is about half of what it used to be if you twist arms
at the carrier and evening and weekend time is considered a
promotional give-away.
I've been told you could darn neat turn the cell sites off in
Quebec and eastern Ontario after 6 pm and not have very many
calls missed.
Metro Toronto on the other hand is booming day and night.
Basically most places in Ontario and Quebec with much cellular
potential are now installed, but an awful lot of Northern Ontario
has no cellular coverage and is only usable with the satellite
service.
The main problem is Ontario highway 17 has a whole lot of miles
and very few people living along it so is not economical for a
cellular company to set up service along.
... Not tonight, dear. I have a modem.
