KF> It seems ED.EXE may be a "root" editor for Word Perfect products
KF> of that vintage, but that's just a guess. Given that it's bundled
KF> in with WP 60 DOS, why isn't it mentioned in the WP reference
KF> manual?
It is! I have the WordPerfect version 6.0
Reference manual dated 1993. "Appendix M: Program
Files" says in the last paragraph (page 875):
WordPerfect Shell and Editor
The program files for WordPerfect Shell and
WordPerfect Editor are listed in the _WordPerfect
Shell User's Guide_".
I don't seem to have that book around here
anyplace. I wrote a QuickBASIC program for a friend
that keeps a database for him. On rare occasions, it
is necessary for him to edit the raw data, usually to
correct an entry mistake he's just discovered. Since
he has used WordPerfect some, and to make the
programming simple for me, when he chooses Edit, he is
shelled from BASIC to WP's ED. He thinks I'm a genius
for writing him an editor that works so much like
WordPerfect. I don't disabuse him of this thought!

At one point, I considered using ED as my editor
for Silly Little Mail Reader - it certainly loads
faster. But I'm back to the full WordPerfect because I
want (need) the spell checker.
