MG>I thought is you acted on what you heard it was then illegal. And that

MG>was ok un less you acted on what you heard. ie. they are going out of

I think there is some confusion on this matter..
Cordless Phones: Legal to recieve- Illegal to divulge
Cellular Phones: Illegal to recieve - Illegal to divulge
Insofar as any "radio communications" other than "public broadcasting", It
is illegal to discuss what you have heard with any third party. This applies
from everything from Ham radio to private companies or for that matter,
anything "not intended" for "the general public".
A cordless phone is considered to be a "two way radio device" and it is not
regulated in the same manner as a cellular phone. It is Illegal to "listen"
to
cellular phones;in addition, it is Illegal to have a device capable of doing
so. Scanners, for example, must be manufactured in a manner as not to recieve
cellphones. Because of thier short and limited range, Cordless phones , have
not been regulated in this manner and are considered to be radio
equipment, whereas, cellular phones are considered to be a private telephone
by law, and are regulated by local government and telecommunication agencies.
I hope this clears up any misconceptions that may exist.
