CH> Has anyone tested those things against sun damage?
Sun damage? Why are you worried about sun damage? You shouldn't expose
/any/ flavor of Compact Disc to prolonged direct sunlight!
CH> In time I'd like to get a writer and move some old cassette stuff
CH> over to a better storage medium.
I began converting my favorite vinyl to CD-R about 4 months ago.
One caveat: resist the temptation of low-priced IDE CD-R burners, and get a
top-quality SCSI unit. I bought an Philips OmniWriter internal (IDE), and
while the price was right, you definitely get what you pay for. If I had it
to do over again, I'd gut my system and install all SCSI devices. Yeah, it'd
have tripled the cost, but it's worth it in the long run.
CH> Luckly, I taped the better stuff with the 3 head cassette deck
CH> so the quality won't suffer too much. :)
Right. Connecting my turntable directly to the PC is not convenient, so
I dub the LPs to a high-quality cassette (metal tape & Dolby S), then
use that to master the CD-R. Sounds just fine.
