Don't do that on your eCS mashine. The only who has to know about that
is your router.

No. It must be 192.168.1.1 with netmask 255.255.255.0 as this is the
IP and netmask your router has.

You has to use a standard (NOT crossover) CAT5 or better CAT5e cable
to connect your computer to a (NOT the Uplink!) port of the router.
