There was a time when we had several echos dedicated to electronic music, 
midi, recording, studios, etc. I would rather see one or more of those 
revived so that each echo could have a focused topic, which is something that 
 tends to be generally good for an echo's vitality. The  risk of opening 
things up is that such actions tend to cause the serious musicians engineers, 
or whatever to leave, and all that is left are a few faithful and the 
"newbees" with questions, and a steady diet of newbee questions is enough to 
test the patience of even the faithful.
So if we've got enough people interested in recording, why not bring back 
something like the old Studio101, or Musicsyn....
Good on topic sharing of information tends to attract people.
