| subject: | Cloning with XXCopy |
This caught my eye in another group becasue of our recent discussions. If the goal is more capacity, and there is no space for another drive but a single large drive will work, here is another option. This is only for Windows 9X, as the cloning process does not produce a bootable disk in NT4, 2000, or XP. 1. Download and install the freeware program xxcopy http://www.xxcopy.com/. 2. Install the new drive as a slave (or cable select), partitioning and formatting as desired. This would have to be done with the case open and the drive just attached to the cable and power. If you want multiple partitions, obviously what will later become the "C" partition will need to be large enough to hold the existing files on the master "C". But assuming a single partition which will temporarily be assigned as "D", the basic sequence is: 3. Connect the new drive as D: 4. FDISK (initialize a partition) 5. FORMAT D: (init volume for file access) 6. XXCOPY C:\ D:\ /CLONE (copy all the files) 7. connect the new drive as C: 8. FDISK (set active partition) Complete instructions are on their web site at http://www.xxcopy.com/xxcopy10.htm. Note that the clone operation may need to be done 2-3 times before it completes. --- LoraBBS-OS/2 v2.42B1+* Origin: SandOS Local San Diego BBS (1:202/300.0) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 202/300 1324 10/3 106/2000 1 379/1 633/267 |
