Five-gallon gasoline cans, cylindrical, with the base cut out,
buried to within 2-inches of the rim; that is, most of the drum
in the ground. Pens in the mint.
In Adelaide I planted the mint in a trench along the middle of
the (clay) driveway. When it threatened to spread sideways, the
car tyres soon cured it of that. When it grew upwards, the
registration plates cured it of that (although having only the
length of the garage to bring the car to a complete stop from
60mph took some practice).
I was always greeted by the fresh scent of spearmint as I made my
way to the house.
