Yeah, when we were playing the club scene (late 70's-late 80's), we would
play a couple of local clubs which seated 700-900 each, and they would
generally "turn the house over" 2-3 times during the course of the evening
for a total of roughly 1400 to 2500 paying patrons. Cover charge when we
played there was $3. Even after paying the band our $2000, the bar owner
still made a bundle.
We had 10 people (7 in the band, plus sound, lights, and monitor mixer), so
we did alright, even though we all HATED playing clubs.
