  MSG 20 of 26 - doesn't show how many are left to be read
  unless you're good at math and subtract 20 from 26.  
  OTOH, reading the list shows total number and number of
  unread.

  Neither method directly shows number of read and unread
  messages, and that was the gist I got from his remark.
