I believe that the 4-byte format is only really of any importance when you
start mucking around with AVIO presentation spaces.  I doubt that it is
much used even then, since firstly AVIO is only commonly used to emulate a
VGA text-mode session in Presentation Manager, which only requires the
2-byte format; and secondly AVIO is 16-bit and is probably better replaced
by a proper 32-bit custom window class _anyway_.
