| subject: | [OS2HW] Is Dell crazy? |
I had been under the impression that Dell business line (like Optiplex)
was better quality than the consumer line, with their "adapter cards of
the week" and tech support from India, but I had an attitude adjustment
today.
I was asked by friends who do not yet have a computer to get them set up.
I spec'd out an Optiplex system, put it in the shopping cart, and it came
up with a $91 shipping charge in spite of free shipping being plastered
all over the site. I called dell - couldn't get anyone in business sales
(on Saturday), finally ended up with consumer sales, where the salesman
claimed that:
1. Dell wouldn't sell a business system without a taxpayer ID
2. Consumer sales wouldn't sell an Optiplex (or presumably a poweredge or
other higher end business system).
He was able to configure a Dimension 3000 with the same specs as the
optiplex I had spec'd out online, for almost $200 less.
But not selling a higher end machine to anyone????
