I went with my oldest daughter on a field trip last Friday - we went whale
watching. It was wonderful! I wasn't sure how either of us was going to
handle being out on a small ship (large boat) on the ocean, so that was one
of many reasons that I volunteered to go along. I also wanted the experience
(and it's expensive unless you can get group rates).
We did get to see a couple of gray whales moving south, before my daughter
and I succumbed to illness (I think we were both suffering from the effects
of Dramamine rather than actual seasickness, since we were sleepy and not
necessarily sick). It was really a neat experience.
If anyone ever gets to take your kids on this kind of adventure (or any
adventure involving the sea), do as we were told (and not as we did): take
your Dramamine long before you go out on the ship. The effects of drowsiness
will pass and your tummy will be much better so you can enjoy it. We just
took Dramamine as we got on board the ship, instead of an hour before that as
we should have.
Ah well, live and learn. It was still an interesting trip.
