Thanks for the note, Maryann.
MD>> I'm glad to see you're back and feel up to helping us again.
I don't know how much help I am, but I do enjoy being here.
MD>> Well, I did receive it and thank you. I see that DTP can be done
MD>> very well in the Geos program.
Sent you another one in this bulk mailing (June issue late mailed June
7th) because I forgot I sent the other one. Watch for it.
MD>> Although I'm not a dog owner I enjoyed reading the articles and
MD>> studying the format.
I'm glad you liked it. If you want to know how many elements are
grouped together to make one of those very detailed display ads, I
can copy one to a floppy disk and snail mail it to you ungrouped so
you can see exactly how I did the layout by opening the GeoDraw page
and doing a "select all" to display the graphic object handles for
each individual piece.
I have one full page dog food display ad that is not running any more
that never got copied to my master document when it was running. I
always gave it a page header and assigned a page number to it and
printed it by itself because that one ad is a 3 meg document. The
reason is because I scanned in and then scaled down the dog food
company's full page flyer of graphics and text to become the upper
left hand corner decoration of the distributor's full page ad which
lists all of the dealers carrying the food in this area.
MD>> I sure wish I could find something to use my imagination and
MD>> creativity. DTP seems so very interesting.
It is. Do you belong to a church? Does it have a newsletter? If so,
volunteer to help with it. If not, suggest starting one and volunteer
to do it if the church will pay for photocopying it at a neighborhood
shop like Kwik Kopy or let you duplicate it on the church's photocopy
machine. Do you have children? Are any of them in a Boy Scout or Girl
Scout troop? Does it hold activities that require information flyers?
Do you patronize a small retail business that could use some promoting
to increase its customer base but doesn't have a budget for much
advertising? Perhaps the owner would appreciate some well designed
layouts to photocopy at Kinko's or Kwik Kopy to be flyers he can put
on the bulletin boards in neighborhood washaterias and grocery stores.
If you're not concerned about money but simply want to create stuff
with your GWE, there are lots of things for which you can volunteer
to do flyers. Many volunteer organizations hold fund-raisers for
which they could use nicely designed flyers, but they can't afford
to pay for someone to do it and don't mess graphics themselves, so
they end up with someone in the group typing it with a word processing
program as plain text.
