Hello Richard. Often we state opinions on these lists, myself included.
However, in this matter, I know of what I speak, because I work in the
program in question. I would not be so irresponsable as to post on
something unless I did the appropriate research first. I have the greatest
respect for Mr. Gashel, but he is human, and humans are wrong sometimes,
and this time, he is wrong. I believe that he has misinterpreted data that
was given to him, because he doesn't have the knowledge necessary to
properly interpret it. Also, the term "bed" is an accounting term. Persons
who sleep at a V. A. facility occupy a bed, after all, we wouldn't want
them sleeping on the floor. These expressions are never used in addressing
a particlar veteran, or in his or her pressence. They are simply
accounting terms used by bean counters. I am one who believes that the
program in which I work provides services second to none, so naturally, I
would come to its defense when it is attacked for no good reason.
