| subject: | Re: Limbaugh Addiction Speech |
From: Randall Parker To repeat what I told Gary Wiltshire in another thread: I don't see the relevance of Limbaugh's position on drug legalization. If he was against legalized murder and he murdered someone would it matter that he was against murder? The whole problem with the "he is against this and the hypocrite did it" argument is that people often do things that they and many others think are bad things to do. Lots of sinners know that they sin. Should we prefer or expect the sinners to instead label the sins as virtues or as morally neutral acts? I know someone who is addicted to one drug which she started taking while in an extended period of pain from a medical condition who admits her addiction is a problem and who is, at the very same time, even more worried about a friend of her's who is abusing an even more harmful drug. I find her worries and sense of failing to be eminently sensible. At the same time i recognize that she's got an addiction that she doesn't sufficient will or strength to break free of. Tragic. Since I've tried and failed at considerable expense to help her out of other destructive modes she's gotten into I am not optimistic about success with her latest problem.
