I don't believe the killing of 6 million Jews by Hitler and 20 million or
more Russians by Stalin were committed for religious reasons.  Yet you
state that these numbers which are many times more than the killings in all
the crusades or whatever you like added together over the history of
mankind are not more terrible and more gruesome than the religious killings
you identify.  It seems to me you, like many liberals, make up your mind
what you want to believe first, and then concoct facts and rationale to
support the point of view you first decided upon.
