PN>Vern was returning fire at Paul
PN> about 1911 Triggers
PN> VH> There, I agree -- I left the trigger of my M1927 Argentine (which is
PN> VH> my carry gun) alone -- never touched it.
PN> The old trigger action was too light (for an everyday carry gun) and
PN> less than crisp. Smooth but mushy, if that makes any sense.
Gotcha -- I know just what you mean.
PN> We decided to go with a couple of minor mods to bring it up to 4#,
PN> with an adjustable trigger and stoning or whatever appropriate for
PN> "feel."
PN> When he got into it it turns out that we've got some significant wear
PN> issues to deal with -- and a resulting parts list that we'd not
PN> anticipated. So instead of a $50-75 repair bill it's looking more in
PN> the buck and a half range. Course, the good part of that news is that
PN> we can build it pretty much the way we want it. (I guess that's the
PN> "looking on the bright side" attitude...or stupidity. )
Hmmm -- I suppose you're paying for handfitting? I occasionally buy
parts from the Dare Gun Room (advertised in Shotgun News, and just a
couple of miles from my place in Virginia). I can get all the parts in
the trigger and hammer assemblies for less than $150.
PN> I didn't particular _want_ to have to spend another couple hundred
PN> bucks on smithing...but then I didn't want to have to spend a couple of
PN> hundred on fixing the truck either.
PN> Hmm, livin' in a fix-up house, drivin' a fix-up truck, campin' in a
PN> fix-up trailer, carryin' a fix up 1911. Something's wrong here .
Yeah, but when you get it all fixed up, think how easy life will seem.
