There's a royalty on both, VHS and Audio-DAT tapes. What I'm using is 
DAT-Streamer tapes, which have no royalty on them, and their quality is 
better (specified for longer use, higher speed, etc.) Plus, they exist in 90m 
and 120m (m for meter) version, whereas the Audio-DATs are only available up 
to 60m/120min.
But recently there has been a huge price drop on CD-Rs over here. They have 
become cheaper than even DAT streamer tapes.
