subject: [OS2HW] LBA algorithms on Laptop BIOSes

Hi all,

I have a Sony VAIO Laptop on which the original Travelstar 2.5" HDD has
given up the ghost - going from no SMART errors to BAD, over the course
of two boots, and which I'm currently attempting to recover the data
from using DFSee! What I am wondering is:

Do *all* laptop BIOSes [my VAIO has Phoenix 4.0 Version 6.0.6 BIOS]
use 240 as the standard [logical geometry] number of heads, or do some
use 255 like desktops [default IBM assumption]?

TIA

Mike
