I gave upon this long time ago, but just by asking questions made me
look where I never guessed to look before.  Somewhere in the computer's
BIOS was a plug-and-play enable/disable.  I disabled Pnp and eCS was
able to load the network driver.

Thank you for helping me to eliminate the obvious.
