I'm not so sure this is as big an issue as we think, frankly - of late I've
had several old workhorses start eroding on me (Binkley, msged and
Xlaxdiff) and would be delighted to replace the lot if I could find the
software to do so (preferably without having to spend a month figuring it
out, to be sure.)  I'll admit I'd like to see DOS upgrades, given that I'm
running the Aerie in a MS-DOS window on my pentium, where it takes up very
little room indeed.  But I'd settle for Windoze (I'm NOT changing over to
LINUX if only for serious lack of time).

I do think that whilst upgrading the nodelist, should we leave room for
future modifications so as to simpify any further changes. 

And as long as the original version is also available, those who are using
something that can't handle the new one shouldn't have too much trouble.
