This might be due to bad memory, but I've just watched the tape of "Blake":

As the screen faded to black, we see Avon surrounded and then hear shots
fired.  I thought that when I saw the episode all those years ago, the
screen faded to black with Avon's laughter - no shots.

Or is it my memory failing me?
