JS> So, is it possible, that Supra modems can be easily upgraded by a flash

Probably not, since they are built with a dedicated chipset instead of a
DSP. :(

More likely, the X2 experiment will be like the v.FC experiment. The
shoe's on the other foot this time. v.FC was basically Rockwell's
rainchild.
I figure the ITU-T will adopt something along the lines of X2 by this time
next year. USR will probably upgrade to it with a flashrom, and the
chipset modems will need a new controller.
JH> It is only a 'standard' as far as USR is concerned; we all know what
 JH> happened to HST.
HST put USR on the map. They were running at 9600 bps when the rest of the
world was running 2400. The X2 protocol will probably live about as long as
v.FC. I haven't seen USR call their new protocol a "standard". If you're
looking for a new standard, look into ADSL. It'll probably blow X2 away,
and doesn't require your host to have ISDN. No idea what the telco will
want for ADSL service, but I have a feeling it'll be significantly lower
than ISDN.
