What I got at the second site you mentioned was:

sign:    	+ 	−
polarity:     positive 	negative
terminal: 	anode 	cathode
wiring: 	red 	black
pinout: 	long 	short
interior: 	small 	large
shape:  	round 	flat
marking: 	none 	stripe

Gets you to their specifications on lamps and leds. Some leds max at 3
volts, I'm thinking 5 volts out of the HD circuit unless already
attenuated.
I just remembered some old HD rail kits had leds included (rectangular)
To punch a square hole in thin aluminum I would think to grind a piece
of steel to the shape desired and very square on the tip. set a soft
anvil (another piece of aluminum) under the case location and give the
punch a good wack or two. Should be able to break out the hole then.
Might try it on a test piece first. A wood block would cause distortion
in the sheet.
As for connectors, should find a lot in old throwaway PC's
