At the risk of 'reminding' you of more information you already
are aware of, the music files that stream using 56k modems are
created with that purpose in mind. They are at lower rates of
bps and higher levels of compression which does tend to do
damage to the sound of reproduction. 

Since few have decent speakers connected to their computer few
notice the degradation. If you've never heard the full CD audio
version of the music file at 320kbps you don't notice what is
missing at 28.8-40kbps. :-) 

This was my reason for mentioning that full CD audio is 10meg
per minute of sound reproduced.
