Understood. This is the buffer function that salesmanagers have
provided for their companies. They eat the insults, inuendos,
and other grief from customers so that it never gets to the
production end of the business to create negative attitudes
towards the work. 

Possibly you could arrange for a 'buffer' of some sort who
would be intelligent enough not to pass 100% of the customers
comments along to you?
