I have the mitsumi internal 7n1 floppy/flashcard reader. The floppy
attaches to the standard floppy controller, the 6 flashcard reader to
USB. There are two slots under the floppy slot that take 3 kinds of
cards each and each slot takes a drive letter. The drive letters needed
are two, and the amount reserved are decided by the config.sys
statement:
BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /REMOVABLES:2 /V
If I were to have another usb storage device (external CDR/rw, hard
drives, etc, I would increase the number by the amount of devices I
would possibly use at the same time. The drive only shows when it is
mounted/refreshed. However the letter is reserved. Only reserve the
amount of removables you would want to use at one time. With the two
above, I can use a CF card and SD card at the same time, but if I
plugged in my external hard drive, I could not refresh it until I eject
one of the others.
IMO you shouldn't write off USB for yourself as many things do work
with it, and it seems to keep getting better as ECS continues. No
matter what camera you end up with, it either would work through usb,
or most likely you will have to remove something from it and stick it
in your computer, such as a flash card, floppy, or CD. You should
choose your camera more by personal preference, perceived picture
quality and what you want to spend than which medium it uses, as long
as you can use it with OS/2.
As for filenames, cameras as far as I know don't have keyboards so the
numbered filenames work quite well until you get them into the computer
and decide a more descriptive name for them. I would imagine it would
be quite cumbersome during the heat of photographing to try to input
descriptive names into a camera, unless it would be a voice note (what
a cool idea, just email me to find out where to send the royalty
checks;-)
