I took a look at your thread there. Seems everyone talks about
megabuffers, this may get you longer between pauses, but the pauses get
megalonger too. I don't visit the ECS group often as there are just too
many messages to swim through.

You said 24k works for you, it works on my analog too. I can keep up
with the 32k stream but a 40k stream needs perfect unbroken packets to
just tread water but plays for quite a while before emptying the buffer
as long as I'm not using the connection for anything else. My
connection consistently receives packets of 5000+CPS and connects at
44000bps (with the new external modem).

Good chance, there must be some bottleneck on the way. Could be any
server between the station and you. You should load the shoutcast
playlist and experiment with different bandwidths to see just what
works for you.
