Hi Carol,
 CS> Thought about that but the main issue for me is complexity of the
 CS> country easier, and yet able to so a simple straight seam. The more
 CS> complex tha machine is, the less likely I am to ever use it.
 CS> Grin, for 100$ I can get a very good used model that will sit in the
 CS> closet, or for 50$ I can get a simple one that I will use. Choice
Well, you know your requirements better than I do. I'm a bit skeptical
as to how good those little machines really are; that's why I questioned
your choice. But, I can see where on a ship, cramped for space, they
would be better than nothing. You may reach the point where you'll want
more of a machine one day; when that happens, get all the bells &
whistles you think you will ever need. When I got my Pfaff, it was 2nd
from the top of the line. The top of the line model had a walking foot
and one more bell that I didn't think were worth the extra about $200.00
in cost. I just got a walking foot for about $25.00. The same was tru
with the cabinet; the one I wanted had a number of storage bins
attatched but it cost about $300.00. Steve found one for $90.00 and we
added (the same) storage bins for about $35.00.
 CS> Oh I have more, but I get the ship all the computers and computer
 CS> books as 'professional gear'. I'm a DP . I didnt count those
What is a DP? I know it used to mean "displaced person" but I doubt
that's your meaning. (G) As of now I don't think we can count any of
our computer stuff as professional gear--even though Steve has some
Geoworks programs in German.
 CS> in the estimate. I'm not really sure how many books I have now. I
 CS> just know to have an extra bedroom always so as to convert to a
 CS> library.  I have 7 bookshelves 6ft tall, 4 bookshelves smaller, all
 CS> filled.
You've got us beat!  We have 3 six foot tall shelves, 2 are 3 feet wide;
the other is 4 feet wide. We also have 3 5 foot tall by 2 1/2 feet wide
shelves and a few small ones here & there.  Yes, ours are all full too;
some of my paperbacks are shelved double deep. We have Steve's pro,com
puter & theology books; my craft/sewing books; our general references;
textbooks; and "fun" reading for us & the girls. The bookshelves are
scattered thruout the house.
 CS> Grin, yup! Your method works if you have a machine, but mine works
 CS> better for hand sewing. Would have taken 3 times as long with the
 CS> 'traditional method' had I used it by hand!
I guess so! I'm so used to working with the machine that I don't always
think about how I would have to do something by hand. I know I could
but sometimes I really have to stop & realise how different the
technique would be using the other method. I've made some
blouses/shirts where I've done everything, including sewing on the
buttons, by machine. Other projects (the petticoats I had to do for a
show choir a couple of years ago) had a lot of hand work in them.
Right now I'm taking a break from a "bear" project; replacing the
zippers in my BIL's backpack. I've got the new zippers in but have to
sew down where I unstitched some to get the old out & new in. Because
of the way the pack is constructed, it looks like I'll be doing some of
it by hand. I'll finish it this week end & get it in the mail to him on
Tuesday. By then I'll be done growling about it. (G)
Catch you later,
Ruth
