On 11 Mar 98 11:40:04, Mark Davy said this to Stephen Turner.
It had Something to do with "Green Arrow?".
MD> ST> Green Arrow could be said to have been the spur that brought DC
MD> ST> into the late 20th century in earnest....now he's dead!
MD>
-> It could be said... but I don't think it's true. If anything,
MD>
MD> ST> It is. Trust me. Before Green Arrow, most DC characters were wooden
as
MD> ST> hell, and, in fact, were STILL kind of wooden even during the
MD> ST> O'Neill/Adams heyday,a nd seemd MORE so DUE to GA! The bearded Green
MD> ST> Arrow/Ollie Queen was INDEED the belweather for change at DC!!
See paragraph following this one.
Earlier in this discussion, I mentioned that comics had taking a turn for
the gruesome over the last ten years...this is a perfect example of it. What
kind of monstrous writer/artist team would have a character's ARMS ripped
off at the shoulders??? You call THIS entertainment?? You call THIS good
"character development"?? I call it >!! Why couldnt they just have
Ollie getting old and infirm, passing on the mantle gently to his son, (BTW,
where DID his son COME from!?) instead of THIS El Topo bull****??
MD> I did not know that Green Arrow/ Oliver "Ladies' Man" Queen was dead.
MD> I know that is "son"(?) Conner has taken the mantle of the Green Arrow,
MD> but I thought that Ollie merely lost his arms (up to the elbows)
MD> because of a trap set for him by some guys in which a plane would blow
MD> up if he moved his arms out of a guidance system, he was over a city, and
MD> he was saved by Superman (who cut off his arms so he could save the
MD> rest of Ollie).
