Try renaming BOTH your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT so they do NOT run.
Win98 doesn't need them, and I'm pretty sure Win95 didn't either. If that
solves the problem, you can then modify them line-at-a-time to find where
the problem really was.
