Not just cards, but also socketed chips. AGP slots are particularly
succeptible to misseating. Does your Matrox have any socketed chips?
I've seen exactly your behavior with at least one non-Matrox card. IIRC,
the problem was either misseating, or software error solved by simply
rebooting.

How old is the motherboard? There was a period 4-6 years ago when many
motherboards were made with inferior capacitors. Inspect yours for
leaking and/or swelling. If you find any, they or the motherboard need
