You need enough competence to install a video capture device and its
associated software. On OS/2 - eCS your options are limited to the
EmperoarTV package http://www.s-t.de/emperoar/> which supports some
models in the Hauppauge PVR range. The 'genius' part comes in making
sure that you buy a card which is supported - unfortunately it's not
clear from the packaging which tuner/encoder etc. a card uses and the
EmperoarTV software supports only a limited range. The authors have been
pretty good at including support for new combinations, though. The
USB-connected devices are not supported. There's a discussion list at
http://www.shspvr.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=48>.
On the software side, EmperoarTV provides a driver which receives,
displays and records the TV signal, and a package called DVDFront which
converts recorded material into DVD format. DVDFront can also write the
converted material out to DVD via the DVDDAO program. There is, however,
/no/ editing capability at all. It might be possible to do some editing
with some of the tools ported from *nix, but that is super-guru level.
If you are happy to use Windows there is a wealth of easy-to-use options.
