AG> Personally, I would love to see/own a BBS server that is written in SQL. AG> I'd write it myself if I had time. The database technology had 30 years AG> of finding out how to do this stuff. Much better than anyone's first AG> attempt at doing it by hand, even yours, I would guess. AG> No insult intended. There's a reason I was considering using DB2 as the database behind any BBS I wrote... :-) And this has NOTHING to do with the fact that DB2 hired me. :-} However, for security purposes, the server would not be DB2 itself, but my own server that would act as a "go-between"... partially to allow multiple client styles - i.e., the standard ASCII via modem as well as, say, a user on the lan, or even wan - or a graphical interface or... whatever I (or others) would come up with as a client. This would separate the security issues from the BBS interface - so the "sysop" on the server could ensure that data integrity was followed (anyone without access to OS2PROG due to moderator say-so, for example, wouldn't be able to get access, no matter the client - even if written by that user for his/her own personal preferences), but anyone could write a front-end for it. Using proper RPC/DCE procedures, those front-ends could be any platform, too. :-) --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Tanktalus' Tower BBS (PVT) (1:342/708) SEEN-BY: 50/99 54/99 270/101 620/243 625/160 711/401 413 430 934 712/311 407 SEEN-BY: 712/505 506 517 623 624 704 713/317 800/1 @PATH: 342/5015 61 3615/50 396/1 270/101 712/624 711/934 |
