There is certainly a distinct possibility that the 56kbps technology as
introduced by the Rockwell/Lucent partnership will be enough different from
those of Motorola and USR that they will not interoperate (in fact I'm pretty
sure that someone will see to it that they don't). Once the ITU has issued a
recommendation however, all vendors will rush to comply with it.
