I was looking more for a design rather than which API's to use. :-)
For example, how does a color syntax-highlighting editor know to print
a word in blue in the middle of the page, and print everything before
and after it in different colors (and then be able to scroll it off and
back onto the screen.
The only thing I can think of is that each line of text must have a
a byte for the color imbedded (I don't want to be parsing escape codes
all the time, I already know that is slow). I'm working on it but I
have a feeling my first version is going to be very sloooooowww....
