AA>Alan Zisman -> All said.. AA> AZ> I tried going the Esset online scanner - AA> AZ> http://www.eset.com/online-scanner - it failed to download its AA> AZ> malware definition file (repeatedly) and so wasn't able to AA> AZ> run. AA>Boot into "SafeMode with networking". AA>Open the browser and download Malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ .. AA>install, and run it to scan for nasties. AA>The key is the boot in SafeMode with networking. The on-line scanner may AA>cooperate better too. August, I hope that works for Alans Friend. I had troubles using Safe Mode in XP MCE, with or without "with Networking" selected in either of the two accounts I could choose from, both accounts are Admin Accounts. McAfee would tell me my computer was "At Risk" in Safe Mode if I let it set idle at the Desktop for a few minutes. If I let XP start up normally and used any of my accounts McAfee didn't give me that warning message. I even tried starting Safe Mode with the DSL Modem and/or Router turned OFF and still got that warning message that my computer was AT RISK. I hope my problem was something like a file that McAfee needs was passed over when Safe Mode started up. I thought Save Mode was a "Cure All", now I'm not so sure. * SLMR 2.1a #T348 * WHeRe is ThaT DArN ShIfT keY? --- SBBSecho 2.12-Linux* Origin: telnet & http://cco.ath.cx - Dial-Up: 502-875-8938 (1:2320/105.1) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 620 848 953 @PATH: 2320/105 0/0 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
