Besides, if both renounced the throne, they would just anoint some other relative, anyone who could be said to be carrying on the line. There would be nothing gained. The only real solution is declaring a republic; getting rid of the monarchy, the parliamentary system and all the rest of it. It is long past time England moved into the modern world. At that, they are already moving in that general direction, although at a glacial pace. Blair has been good at making proposals for reform, but then backing down when push came to shove. Basically he is just too conservative.
