Hello Bryan!

I think C (or was it C++) is now the official language of the DoD.

Java is not the only one. You forgot another language which doesn't have
much presence but which is used a lot "behind the scene": Perl.
It is not my favorite language, but I can write the program on my OS/2
system, and just upload it to the System Vr4, change the path, and it runs.
better still, the antique SVr4 was replaced by a SunOs, and no change was
necessary at all.
There is also the Squeak language which seems to be promising, same concept
as java, born more or less at the same time, but on the basis of smalltalk
(if I remember it well). Doesn't have much coverage yet, but who knows.
As I always say, the nice thing about standarts is that there are so many
ofd them :-)
