My point was, and remains, that the wrong people are being blamed for not
protecting something. Rather than the invading navy rushing to guard the
Liberty Bell in my Philly example, it should have been Americans guarding
it from the enemy - just as the Iraqis would be expected to guard their
artifacts, which as it turns out, they already had - so any soldiers that
may have died in a misguided order to secure the museum prior to
essentially controlling Baghdad would have been a double-tragedy. Indeed,
one tank that was fired upon from the museum left to avoid death and to
avoid firing upon the museum in retaliation.

Or, if you like, let's look at this scenario: A school bus full of 6th
graders on a field trip approaches the Lincoln Memorial, at that moment a
DC cop spots two terrorists, each with RPGs. One is aiming at the school
bus and the other is aiming at the memorial - the cop can only take out
one. Does he save the "artifact" or does he save the children? I
know what my answer is without hesitation - I would hope you too would
choose to save the children.
